US responsible for turning protests into unrest: Iran’s UN envoy
Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York Amir Saeid Iravani has sent a letter to the UN Security Council, in which he held the United States responsible for turning the recent peaceful protests in Iran into riots.
Iravani sent the letter early on Saturday, saying that the intervention was carried out through threatening and instigating violence.
He condemned the United States’ “unlawful behavior” toward Iran and its coordination with the Israeli regime to interfere in Iran’s internal affairs, describing it as a destabilizing act, which is contrary to the UN Charter.
The Iranian capital, Tehran, and several more cities witnessed violent riots on Thursday and Friday nights when saboteurs set fire to public and private property, causing extensive damage.
Commenting on these incidents, the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) said in a statement that the US and Israel have not abandoned their hostilities toward the Iranian nation following their joint war with Iran in June./irna
