Pakistan’s interior minister meets Araghchi in Tehran to review Islamabad memorandum

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Saturday to discuss the latest developments and decisions related to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, a Pakistani-mediated agreement signed earlier this week between the presidents of Iran and the United States.

The meeting formed part of ongoing consultations by Pakistani officials regarding the diplomatic process between Tehran and Washington.

Naqvi’s visit follows another trip to Tehran on June 7, during which he met Araghchi and delivered a written message from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei.

Pakistan has played a mediating role between Iran and the United States since April 8, following a ceasefire that ended a 40-day US-Israeli-imposed war against Iran.

Those efforts culminated on June 17 with the signing of the Islamabad memorandum by the Iranian and US presidents, opening the way for a 60-day negotiating process aimed at reaching a comprehensive settlement of issues disputed by the two countries.
