AEOI Elaborates on Work for Nuclear Power Plant’s 2nd Unit
EghtesadOnline: Construction on the site of the second unit of Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in south Iran will start in early November, spokesman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran said Tuesday.
“As per schedule work will commence for pouring concrete for the site in three weeks” ISNA quoted Behrouz Kamalvandi as saying.
The primary Iran-Russia joint venture in Bushehr started in Iran in 2011 and reached full capacity (1,000 megawatts) the following year, according to Financial Tribune.
Earlier this month, Ali Akbar Salehi, head of the AEOI, referred to condition of units 2 and 3 of the plant. “It’s been two years since the construction of Bushehr’s reactors 2 and 3 started. According to plans, the second reactor will start functioning in 2025 and the third in 2027.”
The second and third units will each have a capacity of 1,057 MW. Over $10 billion has been allocated for constructing the two units.
In 2014, Iran signed a contract with the Russian company Rosatom and its subsidiaries to build the two reactors on the same site.
