West Azarbaijan: Iran’s Apple Production Hub
EghtesadOnline: More than 1.2 million tons of apples will be produced from close to 60,500 hectares of apple orchards in West Azarbaijan Province located in Iran’s northwest during the current fiscal year that started March 21, according to Chairman of West Azarbaijan Agricultural Jihad Organization Esmaeil Karimzadeh.
West Azarbaijan has more than 112,500 hectares of fruit orchards, nearly 55% of which are apple farms, making it Iran’s apple production hub.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration’s latest data show more than 334,300 tons of apples worth close to 3.3 trillion rials ($87.1 million) were exported from Iran during the 11 months to February 18, mainly to the UAE, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iraq, Turkmenistan, Russia, Oman, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, India, Qatar, Bahrain, Sudan and Turkey, according to Financial Tribune.
