W. Azarbaijan H1 Exports Top $220m

EghtesadOnline: Some 514,000 tons of commodities worth $224 million were exported from West Azarbaijan Province in Iran’s northwest during the six months to Sept. 22, registering a 2% rise in value and a 38% decrease in tonnage compared with last year’s corresponding period, the head of West Azarbaijan Industries and Mines Organization announced.

Jafar Sadeq Eskandari added that Iraq was the biggest market for exports from West Azarbaijan during the period, with a 66% share, followed by Turkey with 25%.

During the same period, the province imported 227,000 tons of goods worth $380 million, up 3.8% in weight and down by 16% in value year-on-year, the Persian newspaper Donya-e-Eqtesad reported.

Turkey had the highest share in the province’s imports with a 77% share in weight and 71% in value, according to Financial Tribune.

West Azarbaijan is one of the main agricultural hubs of Iran, as its 1.3 million hectares of arable land account for close to 6% of the country’s total agricultural production.

Watermelon, walnut, plum, tomato, almond and apple are the main agro products exported from the northwestern Iranian province.
