News ID: 783247

The section, built as the third phase of the subway’s construction, will cover six stops over a distance of 10 km. Isfahan Subway’s Line-1 currently covers 20 km and is made up of 20 stops with a daily ridership of 40,000, IRNA reported.

“Public transportation requires more focus since many big cities, such as Isfahan, are facing critical environmental situations,” the official said, adding that the construction of subways in eight big cities has become a priority of the government as well as the municipalities.

“The government allocated $2 billion for purchasing 2,000 new wagons for Tehran Metro last year. The same policy will be followed in other big cities, namely Isfahan, Mashhad and Shiraz,” Financial Tribune quoted him as saying.

Jahangiri noted that plans are already in motion to bring about the renovation.
