Post company to provide MasterCard service for Iranians

EghtesadOnline: Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi said that the Iranians' problem in their international payments has been resolved as they can now apply to the Iranian Post Company and receive their international MasterCard.

'The Iranian Post Company has signed a contract with a foreign company on using MasterCard which allows the Iranians to make their international payments,' Vaezi told reporters on Saturday.

He noted that after Tehran and the six world powers signed a historic nuclear agreement in July 2015, several opportunities were created for international cooperation and now these cards can be obtained by Iranians from Post Company, reports ILNA.

Iran’s media reported in December that MasterCard has started to reach out to the Iranians by launching a public relations campaign in Persian in popular social media like Telegram. This was seen as a move by the US payment services corporation to prepare to set its foot in the Iranian market.

Iranians under the regime of US-engineered sanctions could not use the services of the international electronic payment operators like MasterCard, PayPal, Visa and others.

This had significantly complicated not only individual foreign-bound payments by Iranians, but also business transactions between Iranians and foreigners.
