Iran urges Saudi to recognize Iran’s influence in region

EghtesadOnline: Iran’s new ambassador to London said there would be no prospect for mutual cooperation to maintain security in the region if Saudi Arabia refuses to recognize Iran’s effective role in the Middle East region.

Hamid Baeidinejad, who was the former director general for political and international security affairs at Iran's Foreign Ministry, attended the meeting held in UK’ Parliament, where he stressed the necessity of recognizing Iran’s role in the region by Saudi rulers.

He went on to say that the root of the most continuous wrongdoings in the region lies in the fact that Saudi leaders refuse to officially recognize the regions’ geopolitical realities as well as Iran’s historical role there, reports ISNA.

Iranian envoy stated that Saudi has put his all alliances in a big dilemma of choosing Iran or Saudi to cooperate with; underlining that Saudi must realize that accepting Iran’s regional influences would lead to peace and security in the area.

The Iranian and British embassies have been operating over the past year at the level of charges d’affaires, until Sep. 5, 2016, when the two sides upgraded ties to ambassador level after five years. Nicholas Hopton has been appointed as the new British ambassador to Tehran.
