The four-day visit was aimed at discussing ways of expanding bilateral ties with the host country in the field of technology.

The delegation was headed by Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari and included representatives from the ministries of foreign affairs and science, as well as Iran National Innovative Fund and directors of 70 Iranian knowledge-based companies, IRNA reported.

Speaking at the fair's opening ceremony, Sorena Sattari said technological achievements in the developed countries, regional and global environmental concerns, the necessity of promoting innovative solutions in space science, the importance of optimizing energy consumption and the necessity of strengthening economic competitiveness have motivated the two countries to expand their technological and scientific relations, Financial Tribune reported.

Sattari noted that the event is an opportunity for the Iranian tech society to become familiar with Russian knowledge-based firms and startups.

Pointing to the latest achievements of Iranian tech firms and startups in the fields of cyber integrated planning, enterprise resource planning, fintech, security and the Internet of Things, Sattari hoped that these areas should be further explored in future joint plans with Russia.

"The Iranian government will fully support such collaborations," he said.

Russia can be a great tech partner for Iran to exchange knowledge and know-how with. The country will also be a potential market for Iranian tech firms.”

Over 600 tech companies from 107 countries exhibited their innovative products and achievements at the fair.

On the Sidelines

Besides visiting INNOPROM 2019, Sattari met Russian technology authorities, businessmen and experts in the field and discussed ways of expanding commercial ties and exports.

He also met Andrei Fursenko, a senior aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is also the country's minister of education and science.

Fursenko emphasized the necessity of strengthening scientific and technological relations between the two countries, especially in fields of agricultural, industrial and medical technologies.

Sattari told Fursenko that collaborations for promoting technology can help withstand US animosity and unilateralism against both nations.
