According to the official, exports of cucurbits hovered around 1.09 million tons worth $241.16 million during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 20-Aug. 21).
With imports worth $109.51 million, Iraq was Iran’s main customer of cucurbits during the period, followed by the UAE with $53.92 million and Oman with $12.86 million, ILNA reported.
Watermelon is the main crop in the cucurbit family exported from Iran and topped the list of Iran's agricultural and food exports during the five months under review in terms of tonnage.
A total of 529,380 tons of watermelon worth $117.99 million were exported from Iran during the period.
