Iran sets goal to boost economic ties with Oman to $5 billion

First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref has urged for the trade and economic exchanges between Iran and Oman to increase, aiming for a target of $5 billion.

During a meeting with Oman’s ambassador to Tehran, Ya‘rub bin Qahtan bin Nasser Al-Busaidi, on Tuesday, Aref highlighted the historical and cultural ties between the two countries, adding that relations between Tehran and Muscat have always been based on trust and cooperation.

Aref expressed his appreciation for Oman’s stance on regional issues and emphasized the need to expand bilateral cooperation across various fields, particularly in science and advanced technologies. He also expressed hope that the volume of economic relations would grow from the current approximately $2.5 billion to $5 billion.

Referring to the constructive role of the Sultan of Oman in strengthening relations between the two countries, Aref expressed confidence that, with the presence of the new Omani ambassador, the process of developing cooperation would accelerate even further.

For his part, Al-Busaidi emphasized the will of his country’s officials to expand relations with Iran, stating that the Sultan has ordered that there should be no obstacle in the path of developing bilateral cooperation.

He highlighted the strong potential to expand trade, economic, and financial ties between the two countries, calling for greater collaboration, particularly in renewable energy.

The Omani ambassador also emphasized Muscat’s consistent position toward Tehran, stating that Oman supports Iran’s efforts for regional peace and stability./irna
