Insured Unemployed Iranians Decline 2.4% Last Year

EghtesadOnline: Official figures by the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare show that a total of 220,533 people received unemployment benefits last year (March 2017-18), registering a 2.4% decline compared with the year before.

A total of 178,601 people were taken off the dole last year, Mehr News Agency reported.

Men accounted for 79% of the unemployed population covered by insurance last year. In the fiscal 2015-16, 212,413 people enjoyed jobless benefits while such payments were discontinued for 137,884 people. A total of 225,892 unemployed people went on the dole in the fiscal 2016-17 while the government narrowed down the list of unemployment compensation receivers by 182,467 in the same year.

According to the law, for an individual to be determined eligible for unemployment benefits, they must have paid insurance premium for at least six months before being made redundant, Financial Tribune reported.
