Heads of Iran’s Branches of Power Make Arrangements for Presidential Polls
Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Judiciary Chief Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei, and acting president Mohammad Mokhber held a meeting on Saturday to coordinate plans for the upcoming presidential election, slated for June 28.
EghtesadOnline: The meeting of the heads of the executive, legislative and judicial powers revolved around plans for a smooth presidential election following the passing away of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.
They stressed the need for efforts to safeguard the country’s social assets, prevent defamatory moves in the election campaigns, and encourage a high turnout of voters from all walks of life.
They also decided that the Interior Ministry and the Constitutional Council should make the necessary arrangements for electronic voting in the upcoming polls.
A helicopter carrying President Raisi and his entourage crashed in northwestern mountainous forests on May 19, killing the president, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, and six others.
According to the Constitution, First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber has taken the helm as the acting president at the discretion of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
The Elections Headquarters of Iran has set a timetable for the formation of electoral executive delegations, the registration of applicants, and the election campaign processes.
The election campaign period is set for June 12-26, while the nationwide presidential election will be held on Friday, June 28.
The new administration, the 14th one after the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, will assume power in late June or early July and hold office for four years. / Tasnim
