Lewis made the remarks in an exclusive interview with IRNA here on Monday.

The UN official said the Iranian government has had positive relations with the UN body in Tehran in the past three years.

Diplomacy that President Rouhani has been following did restore international confidence in Iran, he said.

On the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) between Iran and the world powers, Lewis said it is among the hottest political issues in the world.

Rouhani administration did make such a deal that led to restoration of relations with the global community, he added.

During the past three years, the tone of the international communities has changed positively when dealing with Iran, he noted.

He further described diplomacy as the solution to the international conflicts as the JCPOA proved the issue.

Gary Lewis also responded to IRNA questions on other issues such as environment, water problems, Mina tragedy, Yemen and extremism in the world. His remarks will be released later.

The interview was held on the occasion of the national Government's Week in Iran that will start as of August 23.
