1.3 Million Livestock Farms Across Iran

EghtesadOnline: There were 1.3 million livestock farms with at least one head of lightweight livestock or two heads of heavy livestock in Iran during the year ending Nov. 20, 2020, the Statistical Center of Iran reported.

They were rearing 46.6 million sheep and lambs, 16.7 million goats and goat kids and 5.3 million cows and calves during the period. 

Khorasan Razavi, West Azarbaijan and East Azarbaijan had the highest number of sheep and lambs, Fars, Kerman and Sistan-Baluchestan had the highest number of goats and goat kids, and East Azarbaijan, Mazandaran and West Azarbaijan had the highest number of cows and calves. 

Milk production by these units stood at 8.2 million liters, such that Khorasan Razavi, East Azarbaijan and Tehran were the largest milk producers in the country.  

A total of 16.2 million heads of livestock were used for red meat production, of which 11.5 million were sheep and lambs, 3.6 million goats and goat kids, and 1.1 million cows and calves.  

A total of 2.8 million people were working at these farms during the period under review.
