Q1 Exports From Yazd Up 87%
EghtesadOnline: Exports from Yazd Province stood at 728,000 tons worth $114 million in Q1 of the current fiscal year (March 21-June 21), registering a 48% and 87% growth on weight and value respectively year-on-year.
“Tiles and ceramics, steel products, hydrocarbons, different kinds of nylon and freezer bags, pipes and profiles, glassware, molybdenum oxide and ferromolybdenum, wires and cables, pistachio and rug cover were the top 10 exported goods from Yazd Province,” the head of Yazd Industries, Mining and Trade Organization, Mohammad Reza Alamdar-Yazdi, was quoted as saying by SHATA News.
Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, the UAE, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Syria, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan and Georgia were the main export destinations.
Imports to Yazd stood at 18,000 tons worth $52 million during the same period.
Machinery for production units, components and parts, electrical and electronic products, chemical, cellulosic and polymer were the main imported goods.
Yazd is one of the 31 provinces of Iran. It is located in the center of the country.
According to the local official, a total of 407 types of goods are exported to 90 countries from Yazd Province, of which 10% belong to the textile industry.
“Twelve percent of the total textile units of Iran are located in Yazd and in this respect, we are ranked second in the country, although in terms of textile production, 27% of the country's textile production belong to the province,” Alamdar Yazdi was quoted as saying by IRNA.
About 90% of cashmere and 35% of curtain fabrics are produced by textile units in Yazd.
Some 100,000 people are currently employed in about 2,100 production units in Yazd Province.
The 12th iteration of the Iranian National Textile Engineering Conference, also known as INTEC 12, opened in the University of Yazd on June 10 for two days.
During the conference, researchers presented their papers, expert panels were held in the fields of novel technologies in the textile industry and the environmental effects of textile industry activities, workshops were held and prominent figures in the field were introduced and commended, IRNA reported.
