Judiciary chief sets pre-conditions to resume human rights dialogue with EU

EghtesadOnline: Judiciary chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani on Monday set pre-conditions to resume human rights dialogue with the European states.

He said that in the course of the dialogue about Iranian human rights record, the Iranian representative must be given the chance to question the European human rights record as well, reports IRNA.

The Judiciary chief made clear determination of the Islamic Republic of Iran not to compromise national security in the campaign against terrorism.

Ayatollah Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with a group of Judiciary officials in reaction to international concern about human rights violation of the Towhid and Jihad terrorist group.

'Iran will not give any chance to terrorists to take any terrorist measure and it is not ready to bargain people's security with anything else.'

Ayatollah Larijani said such reactions fall in line with the dubious and contradictory behaviors of the west in fighting terrorism.

He said execution of the terrorists in Iran had been in line with the legal code of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

'Contrary to untrue claims of certain counter-revolutionary organizations abroad and of certain individuals inside the country unfortunately, recent move in enforcing the ruling in the case of a number of terrorists has nothing to do with the Shia or Sunni issue, rather it is terrorist crime. It was in the context of Sharia law and the customary law being observed by the Judiciary.'

The official said the terrorist group had put a number of military people and even civilians in the country the target of their terrorist attack.

'When it comes to terrorism, the Islamic Republic of Iran will not show any compromise and will not sacrifice important divine, moral and legal values for certain wrong and unreal claims and reactions of the so-called advocates of human rights.'

Noting that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been adhering to its principles, Ayatollah Larijani said that the conduct of certain international organizations, including the UN, in dealing with terrorism and said, 'Unfortunately, certain western and European countries and international organizations have not shown any worthy reaction to terrorist measures of Daesh in Iraq and Syria and their beheading people, while considering the legal move of the Islamic Republic of Iran in confronting terrorism as against human rights, which is sign of their double-standard and contradictions about.'

He said spread of terrorist measures at heart of Europe and the US is the outcome of the double-standard in international campaign against terrorism.

'The Islamic Republic of Iran will not allow the country to turn into a venue for terrorist measures, backed by certain reactionary governments of the region. Neither will it allow the western governments to interfere in the country's internal affairs and national security.'

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Larijani referred to his recent proposal for beginning human rights dialogue with Europe.
'The main precondition for starting the dialogue is that Iran would also question the human rights record of the European states. That should not be the case that only the western party would ask questions and we be in the position of answering and defending. Moreover, due to its double-standard and deceit in talks and respecting the obligations, the US is out of the dialogue about human rights.'

He said the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to hold human rights dialogue with Europe on condition that they would be accountable for their double-standard on human rights.

'Our question is: What a kind of measure have the so-called western advocates of human rights have taken in connection with the crimes committed in Yemen and other countries?'
