EghtesadOnline: “Besides the daily carnage, the demolition of almost all hospitals, lack of medicine and medical equipment, severe shortage of food and fuel, and the failure of electricity generators in the Gaza Strip, water scarcity has now been added to the problems of the people in Gaza especially in the extremely hot weather,” Nasser Kanaani said in a post on his X account on Wednesday.
“UNRWA says; water scarcity has now been added to the problem of famine in Gaza, and due to the lack of fuel and the ‘breakdown of vital facilities in Gaza’, people are forced to move for a long distance in extreme heat and stand in line to receive water,” he added.
“Undoubtedly, the oppressed but resistant nation of Palestine will bring the criminal Israeli regime to its knees despite the numerous and heartbreaking pains and sufferings, and surrender and defeat are the inevitable fate of the rootless occupiers, but the shame and disgrace for the regime's supporters and those who remain silent in the face of all these crimes will go down in history forever,” the spokesman wrote, the ministry’s website reported.
His comments came after the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees highlighted the harm the Israeli regime’s assault has done to the environment in the Gaza Strip.
UNRWA said the war has caused “catastrophic damage to the natural environment” that Palestinians depend on for water, clean air, food and livelihoods.
It added that restoring environmental services to Gaza will take “decades” and can begin only when a ceasefire and an end to the war are achieved.
In late January this year, research found that the carbon footprint of Israel’s war on Gaza exceeded the annual emissions of 20 small countries.
At least 36,550 Palestinians have been killed and 82,959 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza since October 7, 2023. / Tasnim
