The results of the study showed that cold plasma is capable of killing cancer cells in cellular cultivation phase. The new method does not damage healthy cells comparing to chemotherapy which targets both healthy and cancer cells.
Farahnaz Yazdan-Talab, one of the researchers of the study, said that in the research named ‘Investigating cold atmospheric plasma in treating breast cancer’, effects of atmospheric plasma on breast cancer cells were studied.
The aim of the research was to investigate curbing growth of breast cancer cells using cold atmospheric plasma jet, according to ISNA.
The study was conducted on MDA-MB-231 cell lines.
The outcomes also indicated that cold plasma does not cause any effect on healthy breast cells.
She noted that the method could replace chemotherapy.
She said that the best time of plasma radiation to kill cancer cells is 90 seconds.
