Iranian referee officiates final football game in Olympics

EghtesadOnline: Iranian referee Alireza Faghani officiated the final football match between Brazil and Germany on Saturday in 2016, Rio Olympic Games.

Two other Iranian referees Reza Sokhandan and Mohammad-Reza Mansouri assisted Faghani in this prestigious competition, reports ISNA.

Observers in Rio said Faghani did his job well in the game.

Brazil faced a humiliating defeat of 7-1 against Germany 2 years ago in the World Cup which made Saturday game a sensitive event.

The game wraped up 1-1 after extra time, with Neymar's first-half free-kick cancelled out by Max Meyer's strike. In penalty kicks, Brazil won the game 5-4.

Faghani made history by officiating the FIFA Club World Cup final, where Barcelona defeated River Plate 3-0 at the International Stadium in Yokohama, Japan.

He was named as the fourth referee for the opening match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup between Brazil and Croatia.

Faghani was appointed to referee the 2015 AFC Asian Cup Final, which was contested by South Korea and Australia.
