Tableau Names Amazon Web Services Veteran as New CEO

EghtesadOnline: Tableau Software Inc. named Adam Selipsky, a marketing veteran from Amazon Web Services, as chief executive officer, signaling the data-analysis software company’s shift to the fast-growing cloud-computing market.

Selipsky will succeed Tableau co-founder and current CEO Christian Chabot, who will remain chairman, beginning Sept. 16, the company said Monday in a statement. Selipsky has spent the past 11 years as vice president of marketing at AWS, the cloud-computing division of Amazon.com Inc. that provides data storage and computing power to a growing list of companies including Netflix Inc, reports Bloomberg.

Tableau is transitioning its software tools to cloud-based subscriptions and is grappling with slowing sales growth. In February, the company reported licensing revenues that missed analysts estimates and Chabot acknowledged that rapid staff expansion had left some sales employees under-trained and failing to meet revenue goals. The company’s stock, which had declined 42 percent this year through Monday’s close, gained 5 percent in extended trading following the announcement.

Before Amazon Web Services, Selipsky was an executive in RealNetworks Inc.
