Rafsanjani highlights the need for social security to stem poverty

EghtesadOnline: Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani on Wednesday called for promoting social security and providing the poor with the basic needs will help stem poverty in human community.

Ayatollah Rafsanjani made the remarks in a meeting with Hans-Horst Konkolewsky, Secretary General of the International Social Security Association (ISSA) in Tehran.

He deplored the fact cited by the UN official report that there are one billion people on earth suffering from hunger, reports IRNA.

He said that the efforts to provide the people with the basic needs in line with human nature are very good.

Ayatollah Rafsanjani said that social security must cover the the vulnerable class, terming it the basic goal of the social security in the world.

'People's need to food, medication, education, job and housing are the most essential needs if are met, the global community will gain good feedback in the road to progress.'

Ayatollah Rafsanjani said that it would be made the matter of culture that helping the mankind is good under any circumstances and nations and governments should make efforts in that way.

He recalled reports of the UN in the past several years in which the UN officials claimed they tried to minimize number of those suffering from hunger on earth, saying, 'We do see in many news that many groups of people from many countries have to leave or immigrate from their own country in search for food and security, facing abundant dangers like drowning and loss of life.'

He expressed shock about election campaign of US presidential candidate who said he would expel immigrants, saying that such an inhumane assertions are made at a time when the US officials do know that they have gained such a huge number of power and wealth through plunder of the wealth of other nations and endeavors of the same immigrants, especially those from Africa.

He said that one of the important factors for qualitative and quantitative growth of terrorists is wrath of the dissident people over colonial discriminations and plunder of nations by the despots.

He added that if root cause of acute poverty, which is factor of many terrorist measures, is not removed, the microbe will spread to four corners of the world by terrorists.
