French Senate President arrives in Tehran

EghtesadOnline: French National Assembly President Claude Bartolone arrived in Tehran Tuesday morning upon the invitation of his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani.

Bartolone and his accompanying delegation are due to confer with Iranian parliament officials on the international campaign against terrorism and extremism and solving regional problems, reports ILNA.

The French official is to leave Iran on Friday.

Today, he is going to discuss the latest regional and international as well as bilateral and parliamentarian cooperation with Larijani.

He is also to meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani.

Bartolone was welcomed to Tehran by the Majlis Vice-Speaker Ali Motahari.

Talking to reporters, Motahari referred to France as an influential country both in the European Union and the 5+1.

He said France could play a positive role in better implementation of the JCPOA.

He stressed expansion of bilateral relations and said Iran and France as two victims of terrorism could conduct joint programs to fight it.

Bartolone highlighted Iran’s role as a country which pioneers combat against terrorism and said economic cooperation would be at the core of discussions during his visit to Iran.

Referring to the recent visit of the Iranian president and foreign minister to France, he hoped for good cooperation between the two parliaments.
