Iran’s ‘The Salesman’ to be shown in London int’l fest

EghtesadOnline: Iranian film ‘The Salesman’ directed by Oscar-winning Asghar Farhadi is going to be showcased in the Debate Section of London International Film Festival.

The film is going to be shown in the 60th edition of the event in two days on October 15-16.

According to ISNA, the 60th BFI London Film Festival will run 5-16 October 2016 and is launching a major new initiative to support British filmmakers with an annual £50k bursary award.

Farhadi and actor Shahab Hosseini have won the rewards for the best screenplay and the best actor at Cannes respectively.

Starring Hosseini, “The Salesman” got the Best Screenplay during the 69th edition of the festival Sunday and brought the Iranian superstar the Best Actor.

Premiered Saturday, the movie (titled Forushandeh in Persian) portrays Ra’ana (Alidousti) and Emad (Hosseini), a couple who are acting in the Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller.

Shot in the capital Tehran, it deals with the husband’s situation after an attack on his wife.

The movie grabbed global attention as it became the first Iranian film to win an Oscar, the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards, also bagging the Golden Globe Award for best international film.

Farhadi’s The Past (Le Passé) had been nominated for a Palme d’Or in 2013.
