Mogherini alarmed by deterioration of humanitarian situation in Syria

EghtesadOnline: European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini expressed deep concern about deterioration of humanitarian situation in Syria in phone calls with foreign ministers of Iran, US, Russia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and UN special envoy over the past two days.

She raised the EU concern about humanitarian situation in Syria, calling for come-back to the political process for restoration of peace and security in Syria.

According to IRNA, she said that the key international and regional players are expected to find wayout from the humanitarian crisis in Syria.

Mogherini extended the EU humanitarian initiative to offer emergency relief aid supplies to the people living east of Aleppo and other areas brought under control of the Syrian government.

She appealed for permission for immediate evacuation of those in need of emergency medical assistance.

Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in Syria and the need to evacuate the wounded to the hospitals by the relief aid workers were raised in phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin of Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande.
