Iran, Germany to launch direct rail line

EghtesadOnline: Iranian Railway official Hossein Ashouri says the country has resumed talks with railway officials from different countries including Germany aiming to boost ties in this field.

Ashouri stated that lifting of sanctions have paved the ground for resuming cooperation with world countries in railway section, adding Iran, Germany direct line would be launched soon.

He underlined that the representatives of Turkey, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan are in Iran to expand cooperation, adding Iran is also discussing deep ties with German companies, reports ISNA.

  German engineering giant Siemens has already said it is preparing to sign a major deal with Iran to develop the country’s railway system.

According to the reports, top Siemens officials will head to Iran soon  to discuss the deal which is expected to be worth above $2.25 billion.

It will involve an order for track technology and ICE 3 trains, a model of intercity train in use in Germany.
