MP reaffirms Iran's sovereignty over three Persian Gulf islands

EghtesadOnline: Member of Parliament Mostafa Kavakebian on Monday reaffirmed Iran's sovereignty over three Persian Gulf islands – Abu Musa, the Lesser and Greater Tunbs.

Kavakebian, a member of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, made the remarks during an Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting in Geneva in response to UAE claim over the Iranian islands, reports IRNA.

'Today we are witnessing that the UAE representative presents baseless and unjustified allegations against Iran's territorial integrity. They run counter to the principles of international law, the UN Charter and good neighborliness.'

Based on its logical policy which aims to boost security, peace and stability in the Persian Gulf region, Iran has taken confidence-building measures, Kavakebian said.

Voicing Iran's readiness to engage in talks with the UAE to remove misunderstanding, the lawmaker noted that Iran's territorial integrity and sovereignty are non-negotiable.
