Implementation of JCPOA underlined by Iran, France

EghtesadOnline: Senior Iranian and French officials in a meeting have stressed the importance of following up implementation of the July 2015 deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The meeting, held in Paris, was attended by Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Majid Takht-e Ravanchi and the French Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development Jean-Marc Ayrault.

Takht-e Ravanchi, who has traveled to the French capital to attend the second round of the political talks between the two countries, discussed with Ayrault the latest regional developments as well, IRNA reported.

Expressing satisfaction over the present process of Tehran-Paris relations, the Iranian diplomat hoped the two would witness improvement in their ties.

He further called on all sides involved in the JCPOA to pay more serious attention to the implementation of the deal.

About the issue of Lebanon, Takht-e Ravanchi welcomed the recent development in that country as it could elect its president after over two years.

About Syria, the Iranian diplomat said that finding a diplomatic solution is a necessity for the crisis in that country.

He further rejected any military solution to the Syrian crisis, underlining the importance of negotiation and cooperation to fight against terrorism as the terrorists have put the region and the Europe in danger.

For his part, the French foreign minister described the January 2016 visit of the Iranian president to Paris and the agreements that were signed after between the two countries as the positive measures.

He expressed hope that the two would start finalizing the mutual agreements, adding that the JCPOA should also be implemented completely.

The two, in the meeting, emphasized that war in Yemen should be stopped, all sides should find a peaceful solution for that halt and the humanitarian aid should be dispatched to that war-stricken nation.

Also, the senior Iranian and French diplomats called for supporting the Iraqi government and preserving its territorial integrity.

The second round of political talks between Iran and France were held on November 18 in Paris.
