Iran could supply EU electricity demands

EghtesadOnline: Deputy Energy Minister Alireza Daemi said on Wednesday that Iran enjoys the highest capacities to supply European Union electricity demand.

Talking to IRNA, Daemi reiterated that Iran has the highest potential to expand wind and solar renewable energy.

Three fourths of Iran is located in the Central Plateau with the high level of solar radiation and this gives great potential to it in the field of renewable energies.

Daemi added the country could be turned into a regional energy hub, thanks to its vast capacities and capabilities in production of renewable energy, IRNA reported.

He added Iran ranks first in term of producing electricity in the region.

Iran is turning to renewable energy forms in order to avoid the side effects of generating power in traditional ways.

The country lies on the solar belt that is between 25 and 40 degrees northern latitude. Iran has 300 sunny days in a year. Approximately 70 percent of the Iranian soil is capable of exploiting solar energy. In the hottest parts of the country, it is possible to generate 6 kilowatt hours of electricity per square meter.
