Iran committed to int’l agreements: Veep

EghtesadOnline: Iran is bound to international agreements with the world states, but it will not retreat from its principles, First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri said on Tuesday.

He made the remarks in a ceremony held for the opening of the phase II of Karun Petrochemical Complex, according to IRNA.

Pointing to all ups and downs of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, Jahangiri said, “Iran has made big steps forward for the country’s progress in the past three decades.”

Praising Iran’s security and stability in the volatile region of West Asia, he said that Western powers have done lots of things to destabilize the region.

Probably, Iran was their main target, Jahangiri added.

He said that after repeated defeats in the region, big powers are trying to sabotage the achievements made by Iran.

Enemies are accusing Iran of terrorism by telling downright lies, the official noted.

He said, “If you ask the Western powers who the big terrorists are, they will answer Daesh, al-Qaeda, … and in the meantime if you ask these terrorist groups who their major enemy is, they will say Iran.”

Referring to the prevalence of extremism in the West and the region, the first vice president said, “We should adopt a rational strategy to make progress.”

Iran is bound to international agreements with the world states and in the meantime, it will not retreat from its principles, the official added.

He said, “Iran is neither frightened by the enemies’ threats nor is optimistic about their smile.”

Stressing on an inward-looking economic development based on internal resources but extensive relations with the world, Jahangiri urged establishment of a stable export market and providing the country with its needs for foreign technology and resources.

Several foreign companies are interested to invest in various sectors of Iranian economy including the oil and petrochemical sectors, he noted.
