US foreign ministry tweeted: “we congratulate Asghar Farhadi, cast and crew of The Salesman and Iranian nation for winning best foreign language Oscar”.
This is second Oscar for Farhadi, according to ISNA.
Iranian astronaut Anousheh Ansari accepted the award on behalf of director Asghar Farhadi which didn’t attend the ceremony in protest of President Donald Trump's executive order that temporarily barred travelers from seven majority-Muslim countries, including Iran, from entering the United States.
