Iran, Iraq co-op against instrumental use of human rights, necessary: Deputy FM

EghtesadOnline: Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi has stressed the need for Tehran-Baghdad cooperation to fight against instrumental use of human rights.

In a meeting with the Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari on Wednesday, Araqchi said that certain countries use human rights as a tool to serve their own interests, according to IRNA.

During the meeting held on the sidelines of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) meeting in Geneva, Araqchi congratulated Iraq on being elected as a member of the UNHRC and appreciated the country for taking stance against anti-Iran resolutions.

The senior diplomat further called for continuation of talks with Iraq and other countries on bilateral cooperation in the international bodies.

Congratulating the Iraqi government on its victories in fighting against the terrorist group of Daesh in Mosul, Araqchi underlined the importance of a serious and effective combat against terrorism.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi foreign minister thanked Iran for its help extended to his country during combat against Daesh.

Al-Jaafari said his country is determined to uproot the terrorist groups completely.

On Baghdad-Tehran talks about the issue of human rights, the Iraqi diplomat said his country continues its opposition to political moves against Iran in that area.
