Iranian reformists agree on Rouhani as 2017 presidential candidate

EghtesadOnline: Head of Reformists Supreme Council for Policymaking Mohammad Reza Aref said on Sunday that the political group has unanimously agreed on the incumbent President Hassan Rouhani as their candidate in the upcoming presidential elections.

According to ILNA, Aref made the remarks at the end of the session of the Council late on Sunday.

During the meeting, the delegates built consensus over Rouhani to represent them in the presidential race in May, he said.

“We participated in the 2013 elections with a new approach. Our main strategy has been rationality, collective wisdom and serious attention to national interests since the beginning,” he said.

Reformists made a landmark victory in Majlis and Experts Assembly elections last year as they won the majority of votes in most of the Iranian cities in the first round of the elections.

Aref also called for massive turnout in the upcoming elections.
