Iran condemns EU extending human rights sanctions

EghtesadOnline: Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said on Wednesday that the European Union (EU) stances in dealing with the human rights issues are failed and unproductive.

Responding to the recent allegations raised by the EU on extending human rights sanctions against Iran, Ghasemi said: “Iran strongly condemns repeated and detrimental approach as well as adopting double-standard policies and instrumental use of human rights issues such as unilateral and illegal extension of sanctions under the pretext of violation of human rights which are doomed to failure and unproductive”.

Regretfully, the EU has indicated that it had no good and factual understanding of the status of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran and through adopting political stances has closed its eyes on the realities with regard to the human rights issues in the democratic and religious government in Iran, he added.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran away from this hue and cry will pursue its path which is maintaining and upgrading status of human rights for its citizens based on Islamic principles and the country’s constitution,” ISNA quoted Ghasemi as sying.
