Turkey’s referendum is an internal affair: Iran’s FM spokesman

EghtesadOnline: During the first press conference of the Persian New Year, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi answered the questions related to regional and international developments and Iran’s position on these issues.

“Turkey’s referendum is an internal affair. Turkey is our neighbor and what happened and will happen in this country is related to Turkish nation and we respect the decision. We should wait and see the effects of this decision on the region,” Ghasemi said about the recent referendum in Turkey.

“We hope the referendum can bring peace, stability, security and consensus within Turkey and the consensus leads Turkey to the stability,” ISNA quoted him as saying.

Pointing to the recent phone call between Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Egyptian counterpart, Ghasemi said: “during this conversation Zarif condemned the recent terrorist incident in Egypt and expressed sympathy with Egyptian government, nation and the families of martyrs of the bitter and outrageous incident. They also discussed bilateral issues,” he added.

“In this case, UK has failed in complying with its commitments. We hope they stick to the framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). They should know that their opposition is against it,” Ghasemi said about UK’s opposition to Iran’s procurement of yellow cake from Kazakhstan.
