Referring to his visit to Paris in 2015, Rouhani described the trip as having positive good results and lauded economic ties between the two nations, IRNA reported.
“Iran’s economic relations with France are growing and Tehran is looking forward to seeing the implementation of the agreements signed between the two countries through attempts by officials on both sides,” the President said.
“Unfortunately, we have witnessed defaults by some parties regarding the implementation of the JCPOA,” Rouhani said, referring to the nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
He urged France and the European Union to play a bigger role in this regard.
President Rouhani also said that Tehran welcomes French investors to cooperate with the Islamic Republic to develop its infrastructure and other sectors including the transportation.
“Iran and France enjoy longtime cultural ties and the two countries should try to enhance further their cultural, scientific, technological and academic relations,” he said.
As to fight against extremism, Rouhani emphasized Iran’s readiness to cooperate in confronting terrorism and resolving the crisis in Syria along with France and other countries.
“We should restore peace and stability in the region,” the Iranian President said, reassuring his French counterpart that through fostering cooperation among countries, the road will be clear for improving the lives of the people in the region.
Macron, for his part, congratulated Rouhani’s landslide re-election in Iran’s 12th presidential poll on May 19, and urged the necessity for enhancement of ties between the two countries in all spheres.
The newly-elected French president described the JCPOA as an important agreement in line with regional and international security.
“In order for Tehran and Paris to expand economic cooperation, all parties should uphold the agreement,” Macron said.
The French President also called for boosting of ties and cooperation between Iran and France in trade, economic, banking, cultural, tourism and academic fields.
Macron in reference to “Iran’s role in solving Syria’s crisis and fighting terrorism in the region” called for serious attempts to establish stability and peace in the region, as well as combating terrorism.
