Iran calls for end of violence against Muslims in Myanmar

EghtesadOnline: Iranian foreign minister in separate phone talks with his Turkish, Malaysian and Indonesian counterparts called for end of violence against Muslims in Myanmar.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed brutalities against Muslims in this southeast Asian country with the Malaysian Foreign Minister Sri Anifah Aman and also the Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi.

Zarif expressed his deep sorrow for the sad status of Muslims in the region and called for Muslim countries' practical action to end the discriminatory and inhuman violence against Muslims in the region, IRNA reported.

He declared Iran's preparedness for providing assistance to the oppressed people and helping to find a collective response by the international community and the Islamic countries.

According to UN officials, some 87,000 Arakan Muslims in Myanmar have fled the country and sought shelter in Bangladesh.
