The top three were screened in the current year (March 2017-18), Mehr News Agency reported, citing Iranian Organization of Cinema and Audiovisual Affairs.
Based on a recent report by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Saman Moqaddam’s ‘The Whale 2’ sales stood at 209.41 billion rials ($4.96 million) earning more than the other 10 films. The film was also named the highest grossing film in the history of Iranian cinema.
Standing in second and third places among the 11 films were ‘Patrol 2’ directed by Saeed Soheili selling 197.81 billion rials ($4.6 million) and ‘The Good, the Bad and the Gaudy’ by Peyman Qasemkhani with 162.88 billion rials ($3.86 million), according to Financial Tribune.
The other films that managed to have sales of over 100 billion rials since March 2014-15 include Asghar Farhadi’s Academy Award-winning drama ‘The Salesman’, ‘Muhammad’, ‘I Am Not Salvador’, ‘Salaam Mumbai’, ‘50 kg of Sour Cherries’, ‘Life and a Day’, ‘Barcode’ and ‘Oxidan’.
Of the 11 films, six were distributed by the Iranian film distribution company Filmiran, two by Hedayat Film, two by Filmsazan Company and one by Nour-Taban Film Industry.
