Iranian Internet Service Providers Under Scrutiny

EghtesadOnline: In a bid to increase access to the Internet, the Communication Regulatory Authority introduced a mandatory landline Internet Fair Usage Policy last December. Now the ombudsman says it has received complaints about the quality of the service.

CRA says it has been monitoring the FUP in its implementation phase and the performance of Internet service providers. It will soon publish a comprehensive report on its findings.

Following the complaints made by users regarding the quality of the services offered under FUP, the CRA deputy Nastaran Mohseni says the ombudsman is scrutinizing services provided by ISPs and will review the complaints by users, Mehr News Agency reported.

The Internet Fair Usage Policy has been designed to lower Internet tariffs and allow users to download more data, according to Financial Tribune.

She noted that handling consumer complaints and enforcing regulations are part of the regulator’s duties and the “complaints will certainly not be ignored.”

ISPs are under the regular supervision of the CRA. The services they provide to users are monitored and the firms can be fined if a shortcoming is observed.

Mohseni says the CRA wants to improve the quality of Internet services and ISPs cannot dodge rules and regulations or lower the quality of their services to clients.

Users can file a complaint with CRA by contacting 195.
