Iran Airport Traffic Increases by 8 Percent

EghtesadOnline: Iranian airports registered 451,000 takeoffs and landings in 2017, which shows an 8% rise compared to 2016. Over 56 million passengers and 549,000 tons of cargo were transported last year, indicating a respective growth of 9% and 11% year-on-year, IRNA reported.

As for domestic flights, over 366,000 takeoffs and landings were registered, while over 44 million passengers and over 322,000 tons of cargo were transported.

On the international front, about 85,000 takeoffs and landings were registered, while over 12 million passengers and 227,000 tons of cargo were moved to and from overseas destinations.

Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport was the busiest Iranian airport in 2017, registering 142,000 takeoffs and landings, and moving over 17 million passengers, Financial Tribune reported.

Mashhad International Airport was the second busiest airport with over 73,000 takeoffs and landings, and transporting over 10 million passengers, followed by Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport with over 58,000 takeoffs and landings, and moving over 10 million passengers.

IKIA registered the highest volume of freight transport in 2017, as it moved over 163,000 tons of cargo.
