Iranian Startup Offers Low-Cost Online Educational Courses

EghtesadOnline: Partnering with experienced teachers, a local startup named 'Pouyanesh' has started offering educational courses online.

Through its website, pouyanesh.com, the startup offers training courses from basic sciences and engineering to music and the arts. Courses cost 100,000 rials (73 cents) an hour with the firm claiming a share of the earnings made by the teachers.

The firm's director, Masoud Qasemi, has written an introduction for the startup at the local website stshow.ir. he says those interested can easily search and register for courses, undergo training and receive certificates. The firm offers courses in collaboration with centers of higher learning.

A declared aim of the startup is to provide easy access to educational material, according to Financial Tribune.

The startup is similar in many ways to online training services edX and Coursera. Founded by Harvard University in 2012, edX.org is an online learning destination offering high-quality courses from the world’s best universities and institutions to learners everywhere for free.

Coursera.org has brought together prominent instructors from the world’s best universities and educational institutions, offering affordable online courses and issuing university-recognized degrees.

There are a handful of other Iranian startups also working in the field. Coursea (coursea.ir) is a startup which lists online courses. Zoombook (Zoomb.ir) and Sneeds (sneeds.ir) sell educational material and workbooks as well as guide books for students.
