Smart Tehran Congress in December

EghtesadOnline: The second round of Smart Tehran Congress will be held December 10-11 at the iconic Milad Tower.

It will bring together academia, researchers, entrepreneurs, and knowledge-based firms in a bid to promote ideas and concepts to bring the capital city closer to becoming a smart city, Webna news website reported.

Special panels will discuss the need for modern management of urban infrastructure and public transportation plus smart and sustainable solutions to urban challenges.

As was the case with the first edition in March, the event will seek to promote procedures that help curb air pollution and make the expanding metropolis a low carbon and decent city, according to Financial Tribune.

Worsening air pollution blanketing the skies, especially in the fall and winter seasons, has for long been a major concern of 12 million people living in Tehran Province.

Policy and decision makers have been adopting tried and tested stopgap solutions such as school closures and annoying traffic restrictions (creating in their wake extra problems for families with primary schoolchildren) to improve the air quality but to no avail. The introduction of smart technologies is now seen as something to be embraced though belatedly.

In addition to addressing the omnipresent problem of toxic and suffocating air pollution, facilitating access to smart technologies to control and ease traffic congestions will be a key component of the upcoming event.

Likewise, use of smart technology to counter corruption and help make the Tehran Municipality bureaucracy transparent and responsive will be reviewed.

During the previous event, 50 startups active in urban management and green technologies presented their new services. The startups included Domino Logistic (on-demand fuel delivery), Travener (travel guide), and Moheme (social campaign management).
