Mohammad Hossein Farhangi's comments came after a letter by Iran Medical Council to Majlis Health Commission against two articles added to the government’s proposed budget bill for the next fiscal (March 2019-20) regarding taxation of medical practitioners.
The joint commission, which is a parliamentary body responsible for reviewing the budget bill, has included amendments to next year’s budget bill that require healthcare facilities to pay 10% of the income of their staff physicians in taxes to Iran National Tax Administration and want physicians to use Point of Sale terminal at their offices.
“A majority of the joint commission's members voted overwhelmingly in favor of these articles, so it is highly unlikely of them to change their mind in the final vote,” Mehr News Agency quoted Farhangi as saying.
Many physicians have reportedly done away with POS machines and charge patients in cash to avoid being tracked for taxation, according to Financial Tribune.
