Smart Parking Meters for Tehran

EghtesadOnline: Smart parking meters are being installed in Tehran’s District 2. Using the smart parking meters and a smartphone app backed by Tehran Municipality, motorists can pay and reserve road-side parking spots.

The project was initially introduced in December. People can use the smart parking meters by early April, the project manager, Soheil Mazloum, told the local news website peivast.com.

The system works through the smartphone application 'Tehran-e Man' (literally my Tehran), introduced by the municipality for minor urban payments.

Applicants will be able to reserve parking space through the online system and pay via the app, Mazloum said without providing details, according to Financial Tribune.

The parking meters will be equipped with sensors to monitor vehicles parked in the slots. They will be connected to the Internet to report infringements.

“This is a model project and will be extended to other districts in the capital as soon as it produces the desired  results.”

The project is envisaged to cover the whole capital in three years.

Atishahr fintech, Tosan (banking and payment solution provider) and FANAP (ICT Company affiliated to Bank Pasargad) are in charge of developing the infrastructure for the project.

It is a part of efforts to transform Tehran into a smart city -- a goal of former mayor Mohammad Ali Najaf.

Smart city is a concept according to which urban services are offered through smart technology and Internet of Things, making life a bit easier for the 12 million residents in the capital.

The TM has put extra focus on supporting technology firms and emerging startups that can contribute to realizing the lofty civic goals.
