Iran's Housing Inflation Lags Behind Overall CPI Rise

EghtesadOnline: Iran's housing sector experienced a year-on-year inflation of 24.2% in the Iranian month Dey (Dec. 22, 2018-Jan. 20).

The Statistical Center of Iran's latest report shows that Consumer Price Index measured for the housing sector (using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year) stood at 136.7 for the month under review, indicating a 1.1% rise compared with the previous month. 

The average CPI in the 12-month period ending Jan. 20 increased by 16.2% compared with last year’s corresponding period.  

The year-on-year inflation for urban and rural areas stood at 24.7% and 17.1% respectively, according to Financial Tribune.

SCI put average 12-month inflation of the housing sector for urban and rural areas at 16.5% and 12.2% respectively. 

This is while CPI for the housing sector hit 137.3 for urban households and 128.1 for rural households, indicating an increase of 1.1% for urban and 0.8% for rural areas compared with the previous month.  

The inflation experienced by the housing sector is significantly lower than that felt by other economic sectors.

The overall goods and services Consumer Price Index in Iran registered a year-on-year increase of 39.6% in Dey, SCI said.

The overall CPI (using the Iranian year to March 2017 as the base year) stood at 154.7 in Dey, indicating a 2% rise compared with the previous month. 

The country's CPI in the 12-month period ending Jan. 20 increased by 20.6% compared with last year’s corresponding period. 

SCI had put the inflation rate for the preceding month of Azar, which ended on Dec. 21, at 18%. 

The index registered a year-on-year increase of 39% for urban areas and 42.7% for rural areas compared with the similar month of last year. 

SCI put urban and rural 12-month inflation for Dey at 20.6% and 20.9% respectively. 

The overall CPI reached 154.1 for urban households and 158.4 for rural households, indicating an increase of 2% for both urban and rural areas compared with the previous month.

 

 

Tenancy Inflation

CPI for “tenancy” stood at 136.6 in the same month, indicating a 1.1% rise compared with the previous month. 

The “tenancy” consumer price index registered a year-on-year increase of 24.1%.  

Tenants experienced a 12-month average inflation rate of 16.2%.

“Tenancy” CPI registered a year-on-year increase of 24.6% for urban areas and 17.1% for rural areas. 

SCI put average 12-month inflation for “tenancy” sector for urban and rural areas at 16.5% and 12.3% respectively. 

The overall CPI of “tenancy” subgroup stood at 137.2 for urban households and 128.3 for rural households, indicating an increase of 1.1% for urban areas and 0.8% for rural areas compared with the previous month.
