Masjed-Soleyman Petrochem Plant Construction in Final Phase

EghtesadOnline: The first phase of Masjed Soleyman Petrochemical Company's ammonium and urea units development plan in Khuzestan Province has registered 90% work-in-progress and is expected to come on stream in four months, head of National Petrochemical Company said Saturday.

"The plant will get 861 million cubic meters of natural gas as feedstock to produce 660,000 tons of ammonium and one million tons of urea per annum," Behzad Mohammadi was quoted as saying by NIPNA, the NPC news agency.

According to the official, 200 engineers are undergoing training in Shiraz and Jam petrochemical plants to be able to use high-tech equipment in the new complex.

Asked about financing, he said a Chinese contractor, China Petrochemical International (Wuhan) Co., has invested $590,000 in the project that started in 2015, Financial Tribune reported.

"Wuhan is in charge of engineering, construction and installation," he added, noting that a Swiss company, Casale SA, will transfer knowledge for the ammonium unit and Japan's Toyo Engineering Corporation will share knowledge and expertise in urea production.

Mohammadi said environmental and feedstock permits have been issued. Urea is the most important nitrogen fertilizer in the world.

According to Yousef Davoodi, managing director of the plant, Masjed Soleyman Petrochemical Company’s main product will be urea fertilizer for the domestic market and export.
