According to SCI’s latest findings, Iran had 5,353 mines in the fiscal 2017-18, indicating an increase of 9% (or 440 mines) compared with the year before.
The number of those employed in the mining sector stood at 95,831, registering a 2.5% rise (or 2,345 people more) compared with the previous year.
Miners’ compensation increased to 29,857 billion rials ($226.18 million) in the period, indicating a 24.9% rise over the preceding year, according to Financial Tribune.
Last year saw mineral output of 361.20 million tons worth 250,485 billion rials ($1.89 billion), registering a 2% rise in terms of tonnage and a 51.1% increase in terms of value over the previous year.
The report also shows Iran exported 7.86 million tons of minerals worth $1,804 million last year, posting a 25.5% growth year-on-year.
Last year, the added value of active mines as well as investment in the country’s mines saw a respective rise of 58.3% and 6.5% compared with the year before.
Kerman with 23,884, Yazd with 12,871 and Khorasan Razavi with 5,705 had the largest number of miners among Iranian provinces last year.
The added value of the country’s active mines was the highest in Kerman with 95,612 billion rials ($724.33 million), Yazd with 33,831 billion rials ($256.29 million) and East Azarbaijan with 19,547 billion rials ($148.08 million).
