Intra-Iran Journeys Up 9% in Spring 2018

EghtesadOnline: More than 112 million journeys were made inside Iran during the first quarter of the current fiscal year (March 21-June 21, 2018), which shows a 9.3% increase compared with the similar period of last year, a new report released by the Statistical Center of Iran reads.

Some 45% of these trips were overnight stays and the rest were day trips.

About 69% of Iran’s close to 25 million households made at least one journey in spring, indicating a 1.1% rise year-on-year.

Khorasan Razavi, Mazandaran, Tehran, Fars, Isfahan, Gilan, Hormozgan, Khuzestan, Kermanshah and East Azarbaijan were the top 10 provinces that hosted the highest number of visitors with overnight stays during the three-month period, according to Financial Tribune.

Some 59% of the journeys were made for visiting relatives and friends, 23% for recreation, 8% for medical reasons and 7% for pilgrimage. The remaining 3% were for other reasons, including education, shopping or business.

The SCI report also shows that during their overnight stays, 72% of the travelers resided in their relatives’ or friends’ residence, 8% in a rented apartment or villa, 8% in their own apartment or villa, 4% in a tent or campsite, 35% in a hotel or inn, and 6% in other types of lodgings.

Mazandaran, Gilan, Kermanshah, Fars, Khuzestan, Tehran, East Azarbaijan, West Azarbaijan, Isfahan and Khorasan Razavi were the main provinces hosting the highest number of day trips in spring.

About 34% of the day trips were made for recreational purposes, 29% for visiting relatives and friends, 19% for medical reasons, 10% for shopping and the remaining 8% for education, pilgrimage or business.
