“Upon completion it will daily produce 56.6 million cubic meters of natural gas,” the news agency of National Petrochemical Company, NIPNA, quoted Mahmoud Amin-Nejad as saying.
The refinery will also feed petrochemical plants in southern regions. It will provide feedstock for five ethylene production units via the Dena ethylene conduit.
With a $3.2 billion investment, the mega project will have an annual production capacity of 10.4 million tons of methane, 1.5 million tons ethane, 1 million tons propane, 600,000 tons gas condensates and 500,000 tons butane, according to Financial Tribune.
Ethane will go to Gachsaran Petrochemical Plant in Kohgiluye and Boyerahmad Province while propane, butane and gas condensates will be piped to storage and loading facilities in Mahshahr loading centers in Khuzestan. Butane and propane will also be exported, Amin-Nejad said.
“In line with policies to develop a strong value chain, we are planning to convert propane from the refinery to polymeric products. We are studying the plan to convert propane to propylene,” he said.
Bid Boland has a modern vapor recovery unit that collects either environmentally hazardous or valuable vapors from inside the refining facilities to be either discarded or reprocessed.
Iran is struggling to diversify its economy that is largely dependent on oil export and make better use of its hydrocarbon reserves by producing petrochemicals with higher value added.
Petrochemical production is the second key industry in Iran after oil and gas. Improvement and optimization of petrochemical plants is underway in the provinces to lift productivity and output.
