Iran Airport Traffic Declines 14% in Fiscal 2018-19

EghtesadOnline: Iran Airports Company registered 427,803 takeoffs and landings in the last Iranian year (March 2018-19), which shows a 14% decrease compared with the previous year.

More than 51.67 million passengers and 515,228 tons of cargos were transported during the period, indicating a 16% and 14% decline respectively year-on-year, IAC's latest data published on its website show.

The latest IAC report also shows 357,411 takeoffs and landings were made by domestic flights, down 13% compared with the year before. More than 41.43 million passengers and 315,566 tons of cargo were transported domestically, both indicating a 15% decline YOY.

On the international front, 70,392 takeoffs and landings were registered, down by 19% YOY. A total of more than 10.24 million passengers and 199,661 tons of cargo were transported to and from overseas destinations, posting a 19% and 13% decrease respectively compared with the year before, Financial Tribune reported.

Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport was the busiest Iranian airport last year with 126,030 takeoffs and landings, registering a 12% fall YOY.

The airport handled 14.82 million passengers and 102.949 tons of cargo, registering a 15% decline each YOY.

Mashhad International Airport was the second busiest airport with 60,335 takeoffs and landings, indicating an 18% decrease. It transported more than 8.82 million passengers and 86,086 tons of cargos, indicating a 16% and 9% decline respectively year-on-year.

Imam Khomeini International Airport registered 47,446 takeoffs and landings to register a 19% fall, while transporting more than 7.27 million passengers and around 141,704 tons of cargos to be ranked third on the list of Iran’s busiest airports. The figures show a 19% and 14% decline YOY.

During the final month of the year from Feb.20 to March 20, a total of 32,871 takeoffs and landings were registered. This indicates a 12% decline in traffic compared with the similar period of last year. 

A total of 4.07 million passengers and close to 40,434 tons of cargo were transported to and from overseas destinations in the one-month period, both posting a 10% decrease compared with the corresponding period of the year before.

The above figures show a decline of 4%, 4% and 3% respectively compared with the previous month that endedon Feb. 19, when 34,178 takeoffs and landings handled close to 4.25 passengers and 41,741 tons of cargo.

During the 12th month of the last Iranian year, 28,066 domestic takeoffs and landings were carried out, registering a 9% fall. These flights transported over 3.38 million passengers and nearly 26,179 tons of cargo to record a 6% and 7% decline respectively YOY.

A total of 4,805 international takeoffs and landings were registered during the one-month period to show a 26% decline in traffic compared with the similar period of last year. A total of 689,926 passengers and 14,255 tons of cargo were carried, posting a 24% and 14% fall respectively year-on-year.
